Sa 11.2. Kenwood House 14:00 This mansion on Hampstead Heath was originally built in 1616 for William Murray, who made the pivotal court ruling in 1772 that made it illegal to own slaves in England. Su 19.2. London Walks: Shakespeare’s and Dickens’ London 13:45 London was to Shakespeare and Dickens their inspiration and work. We will see London’s grandest Tudor manor house and little alleys which stimulated Dickens’ genius and the 16th-century gatehouse where Shakespeare went to see his boss, the Master of the Revels. Sa 25.2. Dare to Differ: Colours of Britain 15:00 This Dare to Differ lecture deals with Britain’s multicultural society, in particular London. Together with Howard Mendick, a community worker from Newham, we will have a closer look at the chances and challenges a population from multiple ethnic backgrounds bears. Su 18.3. Lo-Co: St. Patrick’s Day Parade 11:30 The Irish, known for their knowledge of how to have a good time, celebrate their most important holiday of the year. For that occasion, London has organised a colourful and entertaining parade and festival at Trafalgar Square. Meet leprechauns and experience Irish lifestyle first hand! Sa 24.3. Stonehenge and Salisbury 09:00 Stonehenge is probably the most important prehistoric monument in the whole of Britain. It was completed about 3500 years ago and attracts many visitors all year round. Salisbury is a small city nearby and best known for its stunning cathedral. It contains one copy of the Magna Carta and the oldest surviving mechanical clock in Britain – installed in the cathedral in 1386. We will travel to both destinations by coach. The price includes the entrance and audio guide for Stonehenge. If you would like to visit Salisbury Cathedral you will be asked to give a donation.
