St James Pre-School

St James Pre-School has been in existence since 1970, and is run by the St James Community Playgroup (Reg. Charity No. 303113), which is affiliated to the Pre-School Learning Alliance, a registered educational charity (Reg. Charity No. 1096526).

In the summer of 2006 the Pre-School was forced to close its doors as the premises they occupied were to be redeveloped. As the German YMCA was proposing to develop a nursery, the Pre-School Learning Alliance put the Association in touch with the Pre-School, and as a result it was able to move into purpose-built premises in the basement of the Lancaster Hall Hotel. It offers places for about 24 children between the ages of 2 and 4 1/2 years.

As a community project, St James Pre-School cares for children of parents in the Bayswater area on low income. With the support of the German YMCA and Lancaster Hall Hotel it is able to continue to provide this service.
